Two ICOYC Member Clubs Team up for Youth & Women’s America’s Cup

On June 27, the Royal Swedish Yacht Club (KSSS) and Royal Gothenburg Yacht Club (GKSS) together with Artemis Technologies announced the launch of the Swedish Challenge for the upcoming Youth & Women’s Puig America’s Cup.

The events will be held in Barcelona in September-October of 2024 in parallel with the 37th America’s Cup.

Artemis Technologies is a spinoff of Artemis Racing, America’s Cup Challenger in 2013 and 2017. KSSS partnered with Artemis for both those Cup challenges.

This joint challenge by KSSS and GKSS is a unique collaboration between the two Swedish clubs, KSSS from the east coast and GKSS from the west coast, in order to join Sweden’s sailing prowess in a cross-country challenge. The cooperation will provide great opportunities to develop foil sailing in Sweden and fostering new world-class Swedish sailors.

Artemis Technologies´ Applied Consulting Division is leveraging its technical prowess, operational expertise and managerial skills to support the challenge, drawing on experience from previous America’s Cup challenges. CEO Iain Percy was the former Artemis Racing Team manager.

The Swedish Challenge powered by Artemis Technologies has been granted entries into both the Women’s and Youth America’s Cups. The final teams will be chosen from the Artemis Academy, which has been developed as a foundation for Swedish top-level foiling athletes. The Sailing Team Manager for the program is KSSS’s Fredrik Bergström, 470 Olympic silver medallist in Tokyo 2020.

The Youth & Women America’s Cup events will attract the next generation of foiling sailors. In addition to the six America’s Cup teams, there are now six additional entries for the Women’s and Youth event from Spain, the Netherlands, Canada, Germany, Australia and Sweden. As many as five ICOYC member clubs are now involved in the 2024 America’s Cup in Barcelona.

KSSS, GKSS and our participating ICOYC club colleagues have now 15 intensive months to come forward with training and preparation for the adventure. More reports will follow.
