Third Event in Barcelona Foiling Winter Series

The Barcelona Foiling Winter Series continues to establish itself as an international benchmark in foiling sailing, solidifying its status as one of the most prominent competitions on the winter calendar. Event 3 saw exceptional participation, with high-level sailors from multiple countries, reaffirming the global and competitive nature of the series.
Beyond the sporting success, the Barcelona Foiling Winter Series continues to stand out for its innovative approach and its collaborative model between Real Club Náutico de Barcelona and Renting RIBs, combining the club’s experience with an entrepreneurial vision to drive the growth of foiling. This approach reinforces the event as a reference in sports innovation and a prime example of synergy between the private sector and nautical institutions.
This edition stood out for the introduction of a new rudder, allowing sailors to “fly” with as little as six knots of wind, enhancing the speed of WASZP boats and VMG, particularly in downwind legs.
The overall podium was led by Pablo Astiazarán, followed by Federico Bergamasco (Italy) and Alberto Morales, who showcased their dominance on the water despite the challenging conditions. In the women’s category, Sweden’s Liv Häggström once again stole the show, joined on the podium by Sol López and Norway’s Pernille Baann. Among the youngest competitors, Micha De Weck (Switzerland) claimed victory in the Junior category, while Mikel Vázquez secured the top spot in the Master category.
The next stop will be the Regate en Mer, organized by the RCNB in collaboration with the Société Nautique de Genève. This event will introduce a groundbreaking innovation: the first-ever regatta in Barcelona featuring the foil boat Bydyfish, marking a milestone in the evolution of foiling navigation and further cementing the city’s status as a hub for innovation in water sports.
The Barcelona Foiling Winter Series are organized by the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona and Renting RIBs, in collaboration with the Barcelona International Sailing Center, WASZP, and the Federació Catalana de Vela, with the support of Engel & Völkers.
