HSN Sailing Team Win Third Act of the Barcelona Winter Series

With exceptional sailing conditions, the third act of the Barcelona Winter Series J/70 concluded the weekend of January 27, 2025. Organized by the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona, the event brought together an international fleet of over 25 teams from 12 countries, including Germany, France, Hungary, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Ukraine, Portugal, Sweden, Denmark, Austria, the Netherlands and Spain.
The HSN Sailing Team emerged victorious after completing nine races over three days of competition. Their consistent performance on the water, with four race wins, secured them first place with 20 points, four points ahead of second-placed HangTen-Hermanos Berga, who finished with 24 points. In third place was the Noticia, led by Luis Martín Cabiedes, with 26 points, highlighted by a victory in the sixth race of the event.
The Danish team Nordic Shipping, helmed by Frederik Hvalsoe, finished fourth as the best international entry, while Bodega Can Marlés, led by Alejandro Pérez, rounded out the top five after tying on points with the fourth-placed team.
The regatta featured an exceptional lineup of top-level sailors, including Olympians and world champions. Onboard the winning team, HSN Sailing Team, the lineup included Gran Canarian Javi Padrón at the helm, Lanzarotean Gonzalo Morales as trimmer, and Gran Canarian Adolfo López Quevedo as bowman, with Olympian Luis Martínez Doreste serving as tactician.
The HangTen-Hermanos Berga crew comprised Mon Cañellas, Jorge Martínez Doreste, Manuel Carrión, and Alberto Guillén, while the Noticia team included Luis Martín Cabiedes, Gran Canarian Alberto Padrón, Basque sailor Jon Larrazábal, and Galician Luis Bugallo.
The third act of the Barcelona Winter Series stood out for its high level of competition and favorable wind conditions. Over the three days, the race committee, led by Pere Sarquella, successfully completed three races on Friday, four on Saturday, and two on Sunday, thanks to the characteristic garbí winds along the Barcelona coastline.
The fourth and penultimate act of the Barcelona Winter Series will take place from February 21 to 23 in Barcelona. Meanwhile, the Atlantic fleet will continue with the Sailway Series in Vigo on February 15 and 16. The J70 class continues to establish itself as one of the most active and competitive internationally, attracting more foreign teams and new national owners.
