Embracing New Technology On and Off the Water
The Long Beach Yacht Club (LBYC) is constantly striving to improve the member experience through new technology. One such interesting and state-of-the-art piece of tech is the MarkSetBot—a remote-controlled buoy that can be used to set up a racecourse, eliminating the need for a mark set boat and freeing up personnel to attend to other activities. MarkSetBot is equipped with GPS and a motor with a propeller, allowing it to move itself and keep a position that is set remotely. This functionality allows quick and easy adjustments to the course throughout an event. LBYC first used MarkSetBot during last Summer’s US Open Sailing Series (LB OCR) with great success.
On the topic of communications, LBYC has embraced the use of push notifications as a new method of communicating Club events and activities. Push notifications are sent through the Club’s mobile app, and Members may tap directly on the notification to read important Club news or register to attend an upcoming event. The use of push notifications streamlines the communications process, eliminates unnecessary emails, and communicates important information in a timely, efficient manner.
Lastly, the Club has installed a state-of-the-art “Zoom Room” that offers a space for hybrid Zoom Meetings to take place with ease. The Zoom Room at LBYC features a high-end sound system including numerous microphones, a high-definition video camera, and a plasma television. The Zoom Room can be used for in-house meetings and may also be rented for private events.
Innovative technologies can have an incredible impact when it comes to improving club efficiencies and enjoyment. Whether on or off the water, advancements in tech can help better allocate resources, convey information, or simply improve an experience for members and staff.
