2025 Barcelona ILCA Masters Championship

The weekend of March 31, 2025, marked the conclusion of the 2025 Barcelona ILCA Master Championship, organized by Real Club Náutico de Barcelona (RCNB). A total of 113 sailors from 16 countries gathered at the Barcelona International Sailing Center (BISC) to compete in this prestigious event, which also held the title of the 2025 ILCA Masters Spanish Championship.

Weather conditions were highly variable, making it difficult to follow the planned schedule. Out of nine scheduled races, only four were completed. The first day was marked by a complicated start due to a lack of wind, causing an initial postponement. However, as the day progressed, two races were held with a shifting southeast wind ranging between 5 and 13 knots.

After these first races, the provisional standings were led in ILCA 6 by Mónica Azón, followed by David González and Xavier Boluda. In ILCA 7, the first place went to Lorenzo Cerretelli, followed by Aristotelis Chatzistamatiou and Josele Doreste, who also led the Spanish Championship in this category.

On Saturday, March 29, strong northerlies and intense waves affected the entire Catalan coast, preventing any racing. But, Sunday, March 30, after another postponement, the fleet was finally able to race two more heats in southerlies characteristic of these waters.

In ILCA 6, the podium was led by David González Osende (BISC) in first place, followed by Carlos Martínez (Real Club de Regatas Santiago de La Ribera) and Mónica Azón (Club Nàutic Arenys de Mar). On the women’s podium, Mónica Azón took the victory, with Elena Sáez (RCNB) in second place and Alexandra Behrens (Muehlenberger Segel-Club) in third. By categories, the winners were: Raúl González Arroyo (Master), Miguel Álvarez Valls (Legend Master), Sílvia Ravetllat (Grand Master Women), Carlos Martínez (Grand Master Men), Walt Spevak (Great Grand Master), Miriam Carles-Tolrà (Apprentice Women), and David González (Apprentice Men).

In ILCA 7, the victory went to Lorenzo Cerretelli (Yacht Club Punta Ala), followed by Aristotelis Chatzistamatiou (Volos Nautical Club & Arganute) and Jose Luis Doreste (RC Marítimo Barcelona). In the ILCA Master Spanish Championship (ILCA 7), gold was won by Jose Luis Doreste (RC Marítimo Barcelona), silver by Carlos Echavarri, and bronze by Javier Muñoz (Marina Valencia SC). By categories, the winners were: Aristotelis Chatzistamatiou (Master), Javier Muñoz (Grand Master), Jose Luis Doreste (Great Grand Master), and Lorenzo Cerretelli (Apprentice).

Despite the challenging weather conditions, the 2025 Barcelona ILCA Masters was a resounding success, featuring remarkable participation of international-level sailors and a high level of competition across all categories. The City of Barcelona is once again reaffirmed as a global benchmark in sailing, offering a unique setting for ILCA class sailors.

The event was made possible thanks to the organization of the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona and the Fundació Reial Club Nàutic de Barcelona, under the delegation of the Real Federación Española de Vela (RFEV), and with the collaboration of the Federació Catalana de Vela (FCV), the National Association of the ILCA International Class, the Barcelona International Sailing Center (BISC), and the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona (RCNB). It also received support from sponsors such as Unión Suiza, Estrella Damm, CaixaBank, HM Nou Delfos, and Renting Ribs.
