Celebrating Local Heroes & First Responders
The Long Beach Yacht Club and Commodore Scott Dixon hosted eight sailing teams made up of local heroes and responders for a day of sailing, a pool party, a raffle and live music. Long Beach Fire Chief Dennis Buchanan greeted the sailors and coaches, thanking them for joining us at the regatta and serving our community. PSSC Drew Satarino and PSSC Mike Elias presented a history of the 37s and a training on staying safe out on the water.
Teams represented Long Beach Fire, Long Beach Lifeguards, Army, Search and Rescue, Huntington Beach Lifeguards, Memorial / Saint Mary’s nurses and two teams from the United States Coast Guard. We had a beautiful metal American flag sign with “We the people” etched into it. The Club was proudly displaying the American flag at every turn.
We could not have hosted such an incredible event without our coaches keeping everyone safe and volunteering their time. The weather was perfect for sailing and for a fun day at our pool. Families from all teams came and enjoyed the pool and waterslide, burgers and corn dogs by Chef Ken and crew, live music, raffle prizes and good times. Congrats to the Long Beach Lifeguards for winning! Coach Eric Berg and his two boys Max and Jack, Rear Commodore Bob Piercy and Sophia Corzine along with the LBLG team took first place again! We can’t wait for next year to host another event that strengthens the bonds between Long Beach Yacht Club and our local California community.
