New Year, New Amenities to Share with Members
There is no time like the present to be innovative in creating new membership interest at your club. Looking ahead in the new year, Long Beach Yacht Club made several announcements to members, including new amenities, new training programs and new management. Here are some highlights.
LBYC introduced a new amenity, Water Dragon, the Club’s newly acquired 21ft Duffy powerboat, which is available for members to rent directly from our dock through our mobile app. Whether planning a relaxed tour of the bay and canals, spending an afternoon on the water with family and friends, or entertaining guests with a unique experience, this Duffy boat is primed for members to use as they please.
January brought an unprecedented number of training events to Long Beach Yacht Club. We kicked off the month with the first Race Committee Training Day of the year on January 6, in conjunction with the start of the 2024 Saturday Soling Series. The following weekend we hosted the Advanced First Aid for Mariners course. Maritime Medical Guides taught an in-depth course on how to survive a multitude of medical emergencies one could face at sea.
On the culinary side, our Chef has introduced three different weekly specials to entice members into the dining room. Our favorite would be the #WaybackWednesday special where Chef Ken features a beloved dish from decades past. Our Executive Sous Chef has been with us for over 32 years so watching him bring back favorites from long ago that are true to the original menu has been a real treat for our longtime members.
On the social side, we have our annual Mother/Son Dance, a Curiosity Hour with a professor from Cal State Long Beach, a Pub Trivia Night and much more to keep our members engaged.
To encourage members to use their mobile applications, we hosted a training tutorial to show members all of the exciting features that are included in the LBYC mobile app that can make their member experience even better!
To end on an exciting note, we are pleased to announce the hiring of Matt Peter as the new Sailing Director for Long Beach Yacht Club. Matt hails from the New England area and has spent many years working in the sailing industry for prestigious organizations such as the Chicago Yacht Club and the United States Naval Academy. We are excited for the future of our youth and adult sailing programs!
