The Royal Swedish Yacht Club (KSSS) clubhouse, located in Saltsjöbaden outside Stockholm, is our hub for junior training and inshore regatta activities. In August, we hosted a successful European Championship in the 29er boat class, with 175 participants from 24 nations.

It was a true joy to see all the passionate young sailors, ranging from ages 15-20, where many may be the future of sailing and hopefully coming medalists in the Olympics, handle their boats extremely well in tricky conditions.

The 29er class is one of the largest junior classes in the World, and is an important entry-level class for bigger boats, and KSSS was honored to host the event!

In addition, KSSS was spoiled with an unbelievable number of medals in international championships over the summer. With the next Olympic Games less than a year away, it’s been exciting to see many of our sailors achieving great results and partaking in a winning culture.

The list of this season’s championship medals is both impressive and promising

• Vilma Bobeck and Rebecca Netzler – Gold medal, World’s in 49erFX
• Emil Järrud and Hanna Jonsson – Bronze medal, World’s in Nacra 17
• Anton Dahlberg and Lovisa Karlsson – Gold medal, European’s in 470
• Emil Järudd and Rasmus Rosengren – Gold medal, World’s in F18
• Simon Skoog and Cecilia Jonsson – Gold medal, World’s in F18 (mixed)
• Niklas Edler – Silver medal, World’s in OK
• Hedvig and Hugo Liljegren – Silver medal, European’s in 29er (mixed)
• Erik Norlén – Silver medal, European’s (U19) in ILCA 7
• Henric Wigforss – Gold medal, World’s in Optimist

Looking back at this year’s regatta season, we primarily remember three major events:

• The 29er European Championships
• The world’s largest annual offshore race, the “Gotland Runt”
• The celebration of the Stockholm City Hall 100 Years Jubilee Regatta, where over 80 boats competed in the middle of the city in front of City Hall

The days are rapidly getting shorter, the water temperature is dropping, and fall is coming. We now look forward to an interesting 2024, with our eyes on both the Olympic Games in France and the America’s Cup in Barcelona.
